Wanderers schedule about to get hectic

Western Sydney may have enjoyed a week of from A-League action but their schedule is about to get hectic when they kick off their ACL campaign next week.

After a welcome week off, Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic has warned his players to prepare for a hectic schedule as they kick off their Asian Champions League campaign.

The Wanderers sat out last weekend's A-League round, having played their round 19 fixture against Melbourne Victory last month.

But this week things heat up for the second-placed Wanderers as they embark on a schedule of 14 games in eight weeks including three trips to Asia.

They travel to Perth for Saturday's clash before hosting South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai in their first ACL group match next Wednesday.

Popovic said the break was conveniently timed as it's the only respite they'll get for the remainder of the season.

"It was an opportunity to work on a few things in training and also give some of the boys some down time," Popovic said.

Popovic has been criticised for what's been termed a `rotation policy' but all his players are now fit and firing at just the right time.

Defender Jerome Polenz and midfielders Mateo Poljak and Iacopo La Rocca have all made comebacks from injury over the last few weeks.

And Popovic expects all his players to back up fine from their trip to Perth.

"We'll see. It's a new experience for us here at the club and we're looking forward to the challenge," he said.

"But it's one step at a time. We've got to take care of Perth first... then we'll shift our attention to a tournament that is very prestigious ... and we want to represent the A-League well."
