If you've ever had the urge to chat with a mate while soaping yourself in the shower, here's the device for you.
Spark, (formerly known as Telecom New Zealand), is trialling a smartphone dock that allows phone addicts to take their devices with them into the shower.
The telecommunications company says the shower dock allows people to do what young Japanese women have been doing for more than a decade.
"They've been taking their phones with them into showers for years, even taking calls in the shower," says Spark's Nikora Walters, who cites research showing people reach for their phones an average of 221 times a day, even in the bathroom.
"More and more people are feeling the need to stay connected throughout the day," she said.
Technophobes may argue that the shower was one of the last remaining technology-free sanctuaries.
But Spark said their investigations reveal that as many as one in eight Kiwis already use their device while in the shower.
And not everyone is using it to tweet or talk. A large number of converts want to listen to music, podcasts or the news, said Ms Walters.
And with a built-in speaker, the dock will also appeal to shower-singers.
"It takes singing in the shower to a whole new acoustic level," she said.
The dock is designed solely for use on a new waterproof phone sold by Spark.
