Wanted man motionless in NSW court

Accused murderer Chang Jie Wang sat motionless in a Sydney court as his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf to killing Wang's flatmate.

One of the most wanted men in NSW didn't flinch when his lawyer pleaded not guilty on his behalf to murder.

Chang Jie Wang, the diminutive baby-faced accused killer who was recently extradited from Western Australia, sat motionless during his brief mention at Sydney's Burwood Local Court on Thursday morning.

He was facing charges over the February 4 stabbing murder of his 23-year-old flatmate Gongchen Chen.

After allegedly killing Mr Chen, Wang fled to Perth and was placed on the NSW most-wanted list.

He was on the run for 10 days before police finally caught him on Friday.

Wang's arrest followed Mr Chen's mother and sister appearing before the media last week, appealing for anyone with information about the murder to come forward.

Outside the court on Thursday following Wang's appearance, his lawyer Chris Ford said the 23-year-old "wasn't happy" about the charge and would fight it.

"Things are not all they appear to be," Mr Ford said of the "interesting case."

The sister of Wang's alleged victim was in the court but wouldn't talk to reporters.

Wang didn't apply for bail and will remain in custody until at least April 23, when he's due before the same court via audio visual link.
