David Warner has belted his Australian teammate Mitchell Johnson on his way to scoring his fourth half-century of the Indian Premier League season, steering Sunrisers Hyderabad to victory over Kings XI Punjab.
Sunrisers captain Warner smashed 10 fours and a six in his 58 off just 41 balls in Mohali on Monday, as his side triumphed by 20 runs to record their third win of the season.
It lifts them into fifth above the Delhi Daredevils, while Punjab remain bottom of the table.
Warner belted Johnson for 23 runs off the Kings XI quick's first six deliveries.
"I face Johnson a lot at home, so the plan was to give myself room and take on his pace," Warner said afterwards.
Johnson did rejoice in dismissing Shikhar Dhawan for one and later Ravi Bopara for a duck, but the 33-year-old conceded nearly 10 runs per over in the process.
Warner's NSW teammate, allrounder Moises Henriques, kept his composure to post a solid 30, as Hyderabad set Punjab a victory target of 151.
While it proved a chase too large for the hosts, captain George Bailey made 22 before being bowled by Henriques.
Shaun Marsh didn't have as much joy, falling to Bhuvneshwar Kumar for one.
Black Caps spearhead Trent Boult continued his superb World Cup form by taking 3-19 in an impressive four-over spell for Hyderabad, good enough for man-of-the-match honours.
"The bowlers were fantastic and they did their job - they won us the game," Warner said.
Bailey praised his bowlers for trying to get back in the match after Warner's start, but admitted his top order struggled.
"I take a lot of responsibility for that," he said.
"We did a good job to restrict Sunrisers to a gettable target but our top order let us down.
"We're trying to find a top order combination that works and I think we're gripped by fear."
Glenn Maxwell was once again left out of the Kings XI line-up.
