Warner marks 2nd Test with YMCA moves

Years ago it would be decried as 'just not cricket', now David Warner's on-field dancing is par for the course the way Australia play under Darren Lehmann.

When the St George's Park brass band belted out Y.M.C.A late on day one of the second Test, David Warner couldn't help but break out in dance.

Warner's wiggling and uninhibited enjoyment of the Village People tune offered the lightest moment of a long day in the field for Australia, leaving skipper Michael Clarke and other teammates in stitches.

There was of course no causal link that the visitors ended Dean Elgar's dogged knock on 83 the following over.

But like the side's new pre-match joke tradition and trivia nights, it was a strong example of the 'hard but fun' approach that coach Darren Lehmann has entrenched in his charges.

"Yeah, that's all part of it (having a laugh in the field)," Nathan Lyon said.

"We had the band playing up there the whole day.

"I'm pretty sure that was in-between balls. Davey was carrying on like a fool, but that's Davey. He provides humour and makes us all laugh."

The clash in Port Elizabeth stated on a more tense note on Thursday.

Clarke was kept waiting for a few minutes as Vernon Philander completed a fitness test to show he had overcome a "little niggle" in the words of Proteas captain Graeme Smith.

"I got a message (about Philander) as I was putting my blazer on," Smith said of the toss delay.

"The drama is sorted out, Vernon is ready to go."

Lyon said his teammates were oblivious to the hosts' last-minute scrambling for time.

"Hopefully we can make him (Philander) bowl long spells and test him out," he said.
