They were blown out of the water last year, but Western Australia coach Justin Langer is quietly confident his team can cause a few surprises during this month's domestic one-day cup.
The Warriors were the easy beats of last year's competition, with the young side losing five of their six matches.
But hopes are high of a strong showing this month following a series of spirited displays by the Perth Scorchers during the Twenty20 Champions League in India.
The Scorchers won two of their four matches during the lucrative tournament and fell just short against IPL powerhouses Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Warriors will be without star players Mitch Marsh (international duties), Shaun Marsh (elbow injury) and Mitchell Johnson (international duties) during the one-day cup, but Langer said his squad was well placed to perform well.
"It's like in the Champions League - last year we got blown out of the water, and then we came back and we've shown in 12 months we've gotten better," Langer said.
"We've got a really good group of players. They've had a great pre-season and I'm confident we'll do a lot better than we did last year."
The Warriors kick off their one-day campaign against South Australia in Brisbane next Wednesday.
New recruit Michael Klinger, who moved to WA on a two-year deal at the end of last season, is confident of being fit to take on his old team despite breaking his arm in August.
Most of the Scorchers' squad who played in India will also feature for WA during the tournament.
