Warriors centre Ngani Laumape's NRL season is over following confirmation he needs knee surgery.
The powerful 22-year-old has been unable to play since March and medical staff have decided he should undergo a knee reconstruction which is likely to sideline him for eight months. It is his second such operation, less than two years after the first.
Laumape partially tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a training session in mid-February but recovered to turn out for the Warriors' reserve team in a New South Wales Cup side a month later.
He was named for his first NRL appearance of the season against the Melbourne Storm on April 6 only to pull out with more knee discomfort.
Laumape joins utility Ben Henry in being ruled out for the season. Henry had a similar ailment and has already undergone surgery.
Meanwhile, a Warriors medical update said fullback Sam Tomkins will remain out for their match against Cronulla in Sydney on Saturday with a knee injury. He is on target to face Parramatta a week later.
