Washington's Davis banned for doping

Redskins NFL player Fred Davis, who has a history of marijuana abuse, has been stood down indefinitely after testing positive for a banned substance.

Washington Redskins NFL tight end Fred Davis has been suspended indefinitely without pay for a drug violation.

Davis, who caught seven passes for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 games for the Redskins last season, is set to become a free agent next month.

Davis, 28, was suspended for four games in 2011 after failing multiple drug tests for marijuana.

"A couple of months ago I took a supplement that contained a banned substance," he said in a statement.

Davis signed a one-year deal with the Redskins last year.

He can apply for reinstatement next season.
