Wasps qualify for new European rugby event

English club Wasps beat Stade Francais to the 20th and last place in the inaugural European Rugby Champions Cup, the successor to the European Cup.

English Premiership side Wasps defeated French Top 14 outfit Stade Francais 20-6 in Saturday's play-off second leg in Paris to secure the final place in the inaugural European Rugby Champions Cup.

Wasps, who won the first leg in London 30-29, dominated the return encounter in the French capital to clinch the 20th and final berth in next season's tournament, the successor to the European Cup.

Tries from Tom Varndell and Guy Thompson plus 10 points from the boot of fly-half Andy Goode at the Stade Jean-Bouin ensured a return to European rugby's premier club competition for Wasps following a three-year absence.

Jules Plisson registered the only points for hosts Stade with a pair of penalties.
