Joe Hockey's job may be in jeopardy but the treasurer has given a spirited defence of his performance in parliament.
Mr Hockey on Tuesday was asked by Labor whether he agreed with comments new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull made on Monday about the government not being successful in providing economic leadership.
"I would say we could always do better. On this side of parliament we aspire to do better. Everything we do and have done has been a hell of a lot better than a very bad Labor government," he said.
