40 former and current employees of Australia's immigration detention system have written an open letter to the federal government, vowing to continue advocating for asylum seekers.
It coincides with the new Border Force Act which prohibits the disclosure of so-called protected information by a category of current or former staff known as entrusted persons, without ministerial permission.
Those who are suspected of having breached the law could face prosecution, and if convicted even a prison sentence.
Dr John-Paul Sanggaran worked at the Christmas Island detention centre.
He told Kristina Kukolja about co-ordinating the open letter.
