All the usual suspects including A-League and Basketball are in action, while a newly revamped Netball competition gets underway, as does Super Rugby.
In the A-League tonight Sydney FC will look to bounce back after losing its first game of the season last weekend to the Western Sydney Wanderers.
It won't be easy, with Melbourne City welcoming Graham Arnold's ladder leaders.
But Arnold says he's happy with where his team is right now.
"We had a fantastic journey. You know it wasn't one of our goals at the start of the season to be "Invincibles". We're doing very well, we're in a great position at this time and we'll get better and better."
SBS Viceland has live coverage of that match from 7.30pm.
And SBS has more football coverage of the English Premier League when league leaders Chelsea meet Swansea.
Coverage begins at 1.30am Sunday.
The Super Rugby season kicked off last night with the Melbourne Rebels taking on the Auckland Blues.
Tonight it's the Queensland Reds versus South Africa's Sharks and for Wallaby George Smith it's a chance to show he can still be a force in the game.
Now 36 years old, he's spent the past few years playing in France, Japan and England.
It's his first match for the Reds and he says fans may be in for a surprise if they're expecting the same kind of game from him.
"I've developed into a different player than what I was. I feel I'm a more complete player these days. I may not be as fast as I was when I was 19 years old but I think I'm a lot smarter in the way I play the game. I'd rather be the player I am now than I was a few years back."
In International Rugby this weekend there are three Six Nations fixtures.
Early Sunday morning Scotland and Wales meet at Murrayfield, while Ireland and France do battle in the later fixture.
In the early hours of Monday morning England and Italy meet at Twickenham.
England is heavily favoured to win, but according to former England captain Lewis Moody the pressure on players to keep their places will ensure the Azzuri won't be given an easy ride.
"That is why you become a great side is because you have so many players desperate to play pushing each other to perform at the best of their ability knowing that if you have a poor day at the office you will not possibly start the next match."
The AFL pre-season tournament continues tonight [Fri] with the Richmond Tigers taking on Adelaide.
The Tigers have yet to confirm their leadership group, with Jack Riewoldt tipped to earn a promotion.
Richmond Forward Ben Lennon says Riewoldt is already a leader within the team.
"I don't think he needs the title as such, but you know if he does get elected then that'd be great. I've worked with him first hand and he's been great for us and he's always someone who can have a joke and be serious so its a good balance to have."
Tomorrow Melbourne plays Carlton and West Coast and Fremantle meet.
Then on Sunday its North Melbourne against Hawthorn, followed by Gold Coast and Essendon.
It's also round four of the women's competition this weekend, with four more matches on Saturday and Sunday.
Unbeaten side Brisbane Lions takes on the Greater Western Sydney Giants tomorrow while the other unbeaten side, the Adelaide Crows, meet the Fremantle Dockers on Sunday.
It's back to the future for Australia's Netballers this weekend.
A new revamped Super Netball competition begins, with three new franchises taking their place in an eight team competition.
In come the Sunshine Coast Lightning, Magpies Netball and Giants Netball.
Out go the New Zealand teams with the Trans Tasman element of the competition consigned to the scrapheap.
It all gets underway in Sydney on Saturday with the Swifts taking on the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
And the first game of the NBL Grand Final takes place on Sunday.
