Manchester United lines up against Crystal Palace in a repeat of the final from 26 years ago which went to a replay, and was ultimately won by Manchester United.

This year the match has special significance for United manager Luis van Gaal who is under growing pressure to deliver a trophy.

Also this weekend there's the French Open tennis championships, plus all the football codes and netball to look forward to.

The FA cup still has a mythical quality about it.

The oldest knockout club football tournament in the world always carries significance.

For Manchester United, the failure of Luis van Gaal to deliver a place in the champions League in his first season in charge has put plenty of pressure on his shoulders.

Van Gaal admits a club the size of Manchester United should be qualifying for the Champions League,

And he says the failure to do so means victory on Sunday morning against Crystal Palace has taken on even greater importance.

"Champions League is the highest level, and a club like Manchester United has to play at that level. It's very important for the club, also. I came here to win a title and the FA Cup is a big title in England."

It's big, too, for a club with lesser expectations such as Crystal Palace, captained by Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak.

He's had plenty of good luck messages from back home in Australia, and he's hoping to be the man that gets to lift the famous trophy at Wembley.

The FA Cup final is on SBS from 2am on Sunday in the eastern States.

Also on SBS this weekend from 4.45am in the East on Sunday morning is the Italian Cup final, which is this year being contested between Juventus and AC Milan.

The French Open tennis gets underway at Roland Garros in Paris on Sunday evening, and the second Grand Slam event of the year is always a huge favourite with tennis fans.

Australians will be looking to leading hopes, Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic and Sam Stosur to perform well at the event.

In recent years the tournament hasn't produced much for tennis fans in Australia to smile about, and former player Wally Masur thinks he knows why.

He told Fox Sports the Aussie contingent needs to show more patience on clay.

"A lot of Australian players look to make things happen very quickly and clay courters are much more patient, they look to build a point."

The men's crown is expected to go to Serbia's Novak Djokovic, while Serena Williams of the United States is the favourite in the women's draw.

In the AFL tonight the Sydney Swans travel to the MCG to take on the reigning Premiers Hawthorn.

The Hawks have been in the news all week because one of the key men in four Premiership victories, Jarryd Roughhead, has had a relapse of a melanoma on his face.

The news has seen a massive outpouring of support for the 29 year old, but the club's Coach Alistair Clarkson believes that support must now be shown in a different way.

"The best way we can do that is for everything to return to normal, which includes the hysteria around this in terms of the fact it's a public profile and he's a very decorated player, but this type of thing goes on in mainstream life all the time. We've all had to deal with it in our lives, it's just that it's such a high profile player."

Roughead is expected to attend the match as a spectator.

In the NRL tonight there's a repeat of last season's Grand Final in Townsville when the Cowboys line up against the table topping Broncos.

But with State of Origin now looming on the horizon for all the top players, player safety is back on the agenda.

Some Brisbane players that will contest State of Origin 1 on the 1st of June could be playing three games in nine days because of that match.

And Broncos coach Wayne Bennett feels the players need to be more vocal about the dangers that workload could pose.

"It really starts around Origin time. And they get themselves killed and they're getting $30,000 dollars a game and they're happy to cop that and they shut their mouths about the other parts and have a whinge (complaint) about five-day-turnarounds for the rest of the season. You can't have it both ways, in my books."

The big matchup in Super-rugby this weekend sees the New South Wales Waratahs take on the Crusaders in New Zealand on Friday afternoon.

The match pits the top two sides in the Australasian Group together -- victory for NSW will see them close the seven-point gap to the Crusaders.

And in netball this weekend, it's second versus third in the Trans-Tasman Championship when the Melbourne Vixens travel to play the West Coast Fever on Saturday afternoon.

The runaway leaders the Queensland Firebirds are at home to the Adelaide Thunderbirds on Sunday.
