Plus all the action from the PGA championships, and the Kookaburras into the Hockey World League finals.

Ford's Mark Winterbottom has been officially crowned the winner of this year's V8 Supercars championship.

The 34 year-old had already secured the title on the second day of racing at the Sydney 500, with a fifth place finish putting him 238 points clear of rival Craig Lowndes.

Winterbottom was overcome with emotion following the win.

"It's awesome, I had a few tears in my eyes on that end lap - it's awesome, I'm so emotional, my guys and girls that work with me, my family...had mum at the helm all year, I wish she was here...I'm speechless, it's awesome."

Commodore's Shane van Gisbergen took out the final race of the season, finishing 0.4 seconds ahead of Jamie Whincup.

In A-League, Friday night saw Alex Brosque guide Sydney FC to a 1-nil win over Newcastle, netting his 50th goal for the League in the process.

In a sign of the ongoing clash between League fans and Football Federation Australia, the game was played at a near-empty Allianz Stadium, with the Sky Blues' The Cove conspicuously absent.

It was a similar story on Saturday, with the Western Sydney Wanderers triumphing over the Brisbane Roar, helped by a 79th-minute stunner from Mitch Nichols.

The Roar looked to be in with a chance to equalise after Jacob Pepper seemed to handle the ball inside the box in injury time, but it was not to be.

But the Wanderers' Red and Black Bloc weren't there to witness the win, following through on their threat to boycott the game.

FFA chairman Steven Lowy has promised fans everything is being done to fix the dispute.

"We have to resolve it. They have to resolve it, we have to resolve it, we want to resolve it, we're working tirelessly to resolve it. The management team, under David's leadership is laser-focused on resolving this issue."

Earlier Wellington Phoenix scored a 2-nil upset win over Melbourne Victory, with first-half goals from Roy Krishna and Roly Bonevacia.

The result ended the Victory's four-match winning streak.

And after a late start on Sunday due to the League's new heat policy, hosts Adelaide United have beaten Perth Glory 1-nil, lifting them from the bottom of the ladder thanks to Pablo Sanchez's goal in just the third minute of the game.

Midfielder Marcelo Carrusca says the win will lift the team's spirits, ahead of their clash with Sydney.

"We are so happy today, this group has been working very hard so to get three pointsâ¦finally we got them today and now we will enjoy this week - it will be different, smiling and...in Sydney, this week."

In golf, and Victorian Nathan Holman has taken out the PGA Championship on the Gold Coast.

The 24 year-old edged out the US' Harold Varner III and South African Dylan Fritelli in a three-way playoff to claim the Kirkwood Cup, in less than ideal windy conditions.

Holman says it was a great end to a difficult day.

"It was crazy, off that double start and then played nicely again and then to try and lose it at the end was pretty annoying and it was a tough wait at that scoring hut but to go and do it on the first playoff hole was pleasing."

FIFA is in the headlines again, with the European Club Association, which represents more than 200 clubs including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, slamming a package of reforms designed to clean up the scandal-plagued organisation.

It follows a newspaper interview in which the suspended president of world football's governing body, Sepp Blatter, said he hopes to present his case to the organisation's ethics committee within weeks.

Meanwhile 16 people were charged on Thursday by Latin American authorities over links to multi-million dollar bribery schemes for marketing and broadcast rights.

And Australia's men's hockey team the Kookaburras will face Belgium in the Hockey World League Final, after the Europeans beat host nation India 1-nil.
