In the A-League, we're down to four teams remaining after the weekend's elimination finals.
One of those teams is Brisbane Roar- although you wouldn't have guessed it even very late into their match against Melbourne Victory.
Former Roar striker Besart Berisha's goal in the 86th minute looked to have put Victory, reduced to 10 men by a Jason Geria red card at that point, through to the last four at Roar's expense.
But Matt McKay levelled the game in the 88th minute, and in the third minute of injury time, Thomas Broich provided more of the magic he's produced in spades since coming to the club to ensure an incredible win.
Coach John Aloisi says the win is a manifestation of the team's self-belief in a season that started with problems with the players even getting paid.
"I just made sure that the players focused on the football, and I would try and take care of the rest. And they started to buy into what I was doing, and what I wanted to do. And you can see it tonight...they really believe in what we're doing."
Now, the only thing standing between the Roar and another A-League Grand Final is the team they beat in the 2014 Grand Final.
The Western Sydney Wanderers host Brisbane next Sunday.
The other Grand Finalist will be the winner of Friday night's game in Adelaide between premiers Adelaide United and Melbourne City.
City ended Perth Glory's season with a two-nil win on Sunday afternoon; the league's top scorer, Bruno Fornaroli, scored both goals- and what goals they were.
The Grand Final will be played on Sunday, May 1.
Able to identify with the disappointment of Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory this weekend will be Australia's Fed Cup tennis team.
They haven't won the top prize in women's team tennis since 1974; and the drought will now continue until at least 2018.
They won't return to the Fed Cup's top division in 2017 after they were on the wrong-end of a four-nil clean sweep at the hands of the United States this past weekend in Brisbane.
Star player Sam Stosur lost both her singles matches, despite Tennis Australia installing a $100,000 Italian clay court at Pat Rafter Arena for the event so she could compete on her preferred surface.
But Australian captain Alicia Molik has told Channel Seven in the wake of the defeat she has nothing but praise for Stosur.
"It's always a pleasure to play in front of a home crowd. I'd be lying if I said there's not a lot riding on Sam's shoulders all the time, but the way she handles it, every single time that she plays for her country, is something to be admired."
But one Australian female sporting star who did have a good weekend was Minjee Lee.
The 19-year-old golfer from Perth overcame a five-shot deficit in the final round to win the LPGA event in Hawai'i.
She's told Fox Sports this is a big moment in her career so far.
"(This is) definitely a big confidence booster. I mean, the last couple of weeks, I was almost there, but not quite there. My game seems to be coming together really well."
Lee may soon be one of the new faces of women's golf.
In motorsport, the same old faces continue to dominate Formula One.
German Nico Rosberg has made it three wins from three races so far this season with victory in the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
He finished a massive 37.7 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who had to recover from a collision with Ferrari team mate Kimi Raikkonen at the race's first turn.
Vettel blamed the collision on Red Bull driver Daniil Kyvat and confronted him after the race.
Rosberg says overcoming Kyvat's start was a big factor in his victory.
"The start was not quite good enough, Daniil got a really good one. It was a really quick car today so I was feeling great, attacked him straight away and then managed to pull a great gap after that."
Australian Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth after a good start was spoiled by a tyre problem.
The season's next race is the Russian Grand Prix in a fortnight.
