We start with football, and some men wearing blue, but looking to take gold.
Sydney FC have the A-League premiership sealed every way but officially after defeating their nearest rival this past weekend.
The 1-0 victory over Melbourne Victory - Brazilian striker Bobo scored the goal - puts Sydney 11 points clear at the top of the A-League standings, with just five matches to play.
That means just two wins, or even just one win and two draws, from their last five games assures Sydney of first place heading into the finals series.
But if Sydney players believe they can take it easy now, their coach Graham Arnold says they're in for a rude surprise.
"I will drive these players unitl the end. It's my job to do that. At the end of it, if one player slips up and thinks it's over, well, then he'll find himself on the bench."
Round one of the National Rugby League premiership is complete.
The winners were Brisbane, Melbourne, the Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra, North Queensland, the Sydney Roosters, the New Zealand Warriors, and Parramatta.
As for the biggest loser?
Well, it's hard to go past South Sydney.
And not just in the result department, where the Tigers surprisingly drubbed them 34 points to 18 in wet conditions.
Star fullback Greg Inglis appears to be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury fewer than ten minutes into the match.
Perhaps worse, he was bizarrely left out on the field by the team for most of the rest of the game after the injury, despite not being able to run because of it.
It's a big blow against South Sydney and Queensland's all-conquering State of Origin team, of which Inglis has long been part, won't be too happy either.
Inglis says it was awful to be out on the field, yet be unable to really help his team.
"I think there was two plays in that second half when I just couldn't really do anything. And that's probably one of the worst feelings that you can - is just be out there and be a passenger."
Whilst the season may be over for Inglis before it really began - the National Baksetball League season is simply over.
And in that season, the Perth Wildcats were simply the best.
They've won the NBL Grand Final series in a three-nil clean sweep over the Illawarra Hawks.
Especially impressive since they looked like they might not even make the finals very late in the season.
A 95 points to 86 victory, spearheaded by a massive 45-point effort by Bryce Cotton, sealed the championship for Perth.
Wildcats point guard Damian Martin says there's more than the usual pride to take in this triumph.
"This is really special. I think the quality of the league as a whole is as tough as it's been in my eight years. You combine that with the adversity we've faced this year- as did other teams- with injuries, and imports coming in and out, so on and so forth. I think in December, we were sitting seventh or eighth... had to win the final game just to qualify for finals. But credit to the guys. When it really mattered, they stepped up- in particular, Bryce Cotton and Casey Prather."
And in tennis, the number one ranked male singles player in the world is back to his winning ways.
Britain's Andy Murray has won the Dubai Championships.
He beat Spain's Fernando Verdasco in straight sets in the final.
Murray says he hopes this championship sets a tone.
"It is obviously nice to win again. You know I haven't managed to win this one before, I have played here quite a few times. So... obviously good to get the first title of the year, and hopefully keep the momentum going for the next few weeks."
And it was another big weekend in the two new Australian women's sporting competitions.
GWS, Carlton, Adelaide, and the Brisbane Lions were the victors in round five of the AFL women's competition.
GWS was also successful in the Super Netball competition.
The Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning also won, whilst the Melbourne Vixens and New South Wales Swifts played out a 59-all draw.
