Fittingly, one of the world's richest football clubs is champion of the world's richest football league.

Chelsea have returned to the position they occupied when they were first purchased by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

A late goal by Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi gave them a one-nil win away to West Bromwich Albion and with it, the league title with two games to spare.

It's quite a turnaround from their uncharacteristic tenth-place finish last season- and many are attributing it to their new coach this season, Italian Antonio Conte.

Conte says the turning point of this title-winning season came last September, after a three-nil loss to Arsenal- and the alterations he made to the team's tactics after that loss.

"Against Arsenal... this game was frustrating for me because during the game I didn't see my work, my idea of football. I found the strength to change, to take the responsibility and change the system. It was the key moment for us because every single player found in the system the best for them."

Chelsea now have a chance to win the double in the FA Cup Final in a fortnight.

In a spot of irony, that game is also against Arsenal.

The AFL often dubs itself as Australia's game.

Now, they're trying to make it the game of people overseas too and what better place to try and spread the world than China, where there's certainly no shortage of potential customers.

The initial reviews of the Port Adelaide versus Gold Coast match in Shanghai are mixed - not all seats at the stadium were filled for the game.

But the game is something Port Adelaide has been pushing for for a while now and on the field, at least, they've done the job they needed to do, winning 110 points to 38 to move into the top four in the competition standings.

Port Adelaide's Justin Westhoff has told Channel Seven victory is a relief after all the club's done in relation to this match.

"It felt different before the game. It was a must-win for the club in the context of the season, and what they've put all their hard work into. So I'm glad we won the way we did. And the guys did an awesome job throughout the week, and the past year, putting everything together."

In rugby league, it was a wild weekend in the NRL, with plenty of points scored, upset wins, and come-from-behind victories.

The Sydney Roosters scored ten tries in beating Parramatta, lowly Newcastle got a rare win, Penrith came from twenty-two points in arrears to beat the Warriors, and the Gold Coast Titans beat first-placed Melbourne with two late tries.

On Friday night, South Sydney tasted some rare success this season, beating Wests Tigers 28-8.

In the wake of a poor game from Tigers star Mitchell Moses who may leave the club at the end of the year, the issue of players sorting out their future playing plans mid-season, rather than in a designated post-season transfer window, has again been raised.

Tigers coach Ivan Cleary says the associated speculation is not good for the on-field product rugby league puts out to the public.

"I'm not a fan of all this speculation, constant speculation actually helping the game. I'm not sure how that works. There's no doubt that there's plenty of players distracted."

Next weekend's round is the last NRL round before State of Origin becomes a factor.

And in rugby union, a rare bit of good news for the Queensland Reds.

They've beaten the Melbourne Rebels, 29 points to 24, and are in second place in the Australian conference behind the ACT Brumbies despite winning only three of eleven matches so far this season.

Reds forward Scott Higginbotham has told Fox Sports he sees further chance to improve his side's fortunes in their upcoming return clashes with their fellow Australian teams.

"Yeah, look it's a shame we lost to the (NSW) Waratahs, and we lost to the Brumbies and the (Western) Force. But, lucky for us, we play them twice, which gives us a chance to even it up."

After a bye week next weekend, the Reds start their revenge tour at home to the Western Force in a fortnight.
