Weekends highlights include the visit of Tottenham and Spanish side Villareal to Australia, the third round of the French Open, the AFL's indigenous round and the conclusion of cycling's Giro d'Italia.

We begin with football, ahead of Sydney FC's clash with English Premier league side Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.

The North London club, which finished the season in fifth place, has travelled to Sydney with a full strength squad.

Amongst them the Premier League's second highest scorer Harry Kane.

The 21-year old England international says his side has been surprised by the support they received on their arrival.

"I think it's amazing, coming through the airport and there is God knows how many fans there and the reception we've got is amazing. Sometimes when you play in the Premier League in England you don't realise how much support you have around the world. That's why we are really excited for the game on Saturday night. We hope there is going to be an amazing turn-out and it should be a great experience for all of us."

Meanwhile Sydney coach Graham Arnold says it will be an honour to line up against one of England's most prestigious clubs.

"As a young boy I grew up watching Tottenham play and the legends that have gone through Tottenham Hotspurs, Glenn Hoddle, Chris Waddle to the top players who have got now in Harry Kane and Ryan Mason. It's a wonderful opportunity for us on Saturday night to showcase the A-League world-wide against a top English Premier League team. So very excited by the occasion, we are looking forward to it and we are giving it our best shot."

It's an exciting few days for Sydney FC and their fans, who will also get an opportunity to watch their side against English Premier League champions Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Jose Mourinho and his men are due to arrive in Sydney on Sunday.

Meanwhile in the South Australian capital Adelaide United hosts Spanish top division outfit Villareal.

The Reds goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic says the friendly against the La Liga regulars will be the perfect preparation for his upcoming stint with the Socceroos.

"Yeah important games, big games, they are good teams so as a goalkeeper I will probably have a lot more to do than normal, so yeah good for me leading up to the Socceroos game."

Galekovic and his Adelaide team-mate Tarke Elrich are part of the Australian squad which will take on Kyrgistan in a 2018 World Cup Qualifier next month.

In tennis Sam Stosur will face defending champion Maria Sharapova in a third round blockbuster at the French Open on Friday night.

In her opening two rounds, the 26 seeded Australian has looked as comfortable and dominant as she did in her same run to the 2010 Rolland Garros final.

But Stosur says the Russian number 2 seed, who has won 14 of their past 16 previous meetings, will go into their clash as a huge favourite.

"Look, playing Maria is always a big challenge for me no matter what surface it's on, I don't have a very good record at all. And obviously we played here last year and that's the last time we have played against each other, so it's always a big challenge and I have to be ready and have to play as well, or maybe if not better that what I have been doing."

Meanwhile in AFL news, this weekend's Round 9 will mark the contribution Indigenous players have made to Australian Football.

The annual indigenous round will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the AFL's racial vilification policy

All 18 clubs will wear indigenous themed guernseys and for the first time umpires will wear shirts designed by Indigenous artists.

The AFL will also reinforce its commitment to the Recognise campaign in support of the constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The nine clubs which joined the movement towards constitutional recognition will feature the R on their playing strips.

Two-time Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes has paid tribute to the clubs that have signed on.

"The teams that have supported it this year, they are not doing it in a token way. They support it because they support the cause, they understand what the cause is and they really make it sure that people at their football club understand it as well."

Adam Goodes' Sydney Swans will kick off the Indigenous Round on Friday night against Carlton.

And finally, in cycling, the 2015 Giro d'Italia will come to a conclusion with a flat 178 kilometre stage on Sunday night.

But before the sprint from Turin to Milan, the riders will have to tackle two tough mountain stages with brutal climbs on Friday and Saturday nights.

And you can catch live coverage of every remaining Giro stage on SBS ONE.
