The federal government has yet to decide which towns will get to trial a cashless card that stops people spending welfare payments on drugs, alcohol and gambling.

It's believed the NSW town of Moree will be one, along with Ceduna in South Australia and Kununurra in Western Australia.

But Social Services Minister Scott Morrison says it's important to get feedback before any decision is made.

"You've got to get the implementation right," he told reporters in Canberra on Monday.

The trial will begin at the end of the year and will target disadvantaged communities.
