Welles' Citizen Kane script for auction

The draft script for cinema classic Citizen Kane belonging to its director and co-writer Orson Welles will be auctioned by Sotheby's in London.

Orson Welles' personal draft script for Citizen Kane is up for sale - from the collection of an American almost as wealthy as the movie's monstrous newspaper mogul, though considerably more private.

Sotheby's auction house is offering the typed script, covered in Welles' amendments and annotations and marked "Mr Welles' working copy" on the front page.

The script, which has an estimated price of Stg15,000 to Stg20,000 ($A28,040 to $A37,386.67), is part of a sale of more than 1000 items owned by the late Stanley Seeger, an affluent collector of everything from Old Masters to historical oddities.

Other lots to be offered March 5 and 6 in London include 100-million-year-old dinosaur eggs, Winston Churchill's armchair and a cocktail shaker once owned by Al Capone.
