West Indies bat out draw in tour match

A New Zealand XI and a West Indies side have played out a draw in their three-day tour match at Lincoln near Christchurch.

Both sides gained further batting practice before a New Zealand XI and a West Indies side agreed to a draw in their three-day match near Christchurch.

The tourists reached 2-121 in their second innings before play ended before tea on the third day.

Earlier the NZ XI declared their second innings at 3-168, after resuming at 0-103.

The West Indies side, boosted by a handful of New Zealand domestic players as their full tour squad had not arrived by the game's start on Tuesday, didn't pursue the victory.

Instead they faced 31 overs in sedate fashion and stumps were called when they were 51 runs short of victory.

Opener Chadwick Walton was unbeaten on 61 while offspinner Mark Craig took the only two wickets to fall.

Earlier, NZ XI openers Hamish Rutherford (72 not out) and Peter Fulton (53no) warmed up for the first Test starting in Dunedin on Tuesday with a 142-run opening stand before both retired.

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, seeking runs to end a form slump heading into the three-Test series, was dismissed for 10 to follow his 22 on the opening day.
