West Papua's independence movement has received historic diplomatic recognition by a regional grouping of Pacific island countries.

West Papua recognised by key Melanesian summit

The Melanesian Spearhead Group has granted the West Papuans observer status at a summit in the Solomon Islands.

 

Indonesia has also had a political victory at the summit.

 

Stefan Armbruster is in Honiara.

 

He tells Peggy Giakoumelos how the group has resolved the issue of West Papuan status.
