Seven asylum seekers from the Indonesian province of Papua say they hope to mount a legal challenge against what they say was their irregular deportation from Australia to PNG.

Federal immigration minister Scott Morrison has confirmed a "concession" was made to a long-standing deal with PNG to deport them.

The West Papuans arrived in the Torres Strait last week after being involved in symbolic protest with Australian Aboriginal elders near the international sea border with Australia in September.

Indonesia has brutally suppressed a West Papuan independence movement since 1969 and the seven say they fear for their lives.

Yacob Mandabayan spoke with Stefan Armbruster from the Hideaway Hotel in Port Moresby.
