The 33-year-old travelled to Australia in his early twenties, where he later became the managing director of Australasian Resources, the company of party boss Clive Palmer.
The Senator-elect is in favour of abolishing the carbon tax.
“Australia relies heavily on foreign investment. I believe the introduction, and even the repeal, of carbon and mining taxes have damaged Australia’s global investment reputation in a time that the country is facing increasing competition from other areas for investment,” he said in a statement posted on the party’s website.
“The taxes may be short-lived but the damage will linger for much longer.”
He has described his previous political experience as “zero” and has come under scrutiny by his soon-to-be colleagues in the Senate.
He has since been subject to allegations of being gagged by Mr Palmer, though has given a rare interview to Channel Seven where he said he would “vote with his heart” if he disagreed with policy.
SBS sought an interview with Dio Wang, but the party's media advisor did not respond to calls.
