Whale calf freed from Qld shark net

Authorities have rescued a young whale trapped in a shark net in waters off the Gold Coast.

A whale calf is free after becoming trapped in a shark net off the Gold Coast.

Experts from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Sea World spent almost two hours on Tuesday morning untangling the calf from a net about 500m off the Coolangatta coast.

An adult whale stayed with the calf until it was freed.

No details are available about the condition of the calf.
