Whale stuck in fishing nets in Perth freed

Authorities have freed a humpback whale that was stuck in fishing nets in West Australian waters.

A humpback whale that was tangled in fishing nets outside Fremantle harbour has been freed.

Authorities on Sunday warned the public, including boat users, to stay away while experts tried to free the animal.

Fremantle Sea Rescue tweeted on Sunday night that the rescue team managed to remove several ropes tangled around the whale before it swam off in a northerly direction.

Humpback whales have been spotted in the area over the past couple of days.
