What Ebay thinks 2019 tech will look like

The technology of tomorrow will be almost the same as today, just a bit more refined and more widespread according to a new report.

Forget hoverboards, jetpacks and robots, the near-future of technology is far less grand: a better TV, a smarter watch and toasters with internet connectivity.

Australians will be better connected by 2019 through their fridge, toaster and even their clothes, according to a new Ebay report outlining what technology will look like in the future.

The Economics of Electronics trend report, released on Friday, places smartphones at the centre of the current "creative destruction" phase in economics.

Disruptive technology, which enables innovative ways of doing things such as the common smartphone and "phablet", has pushed Australians away from buying tablet computers, researchers found.

But phones won't be the only gadgets that take us online in the future, with an estimated 20 devices expected to be linked to the internet per household by 2019 compared to an average of eight in 2015.
