In the United Kingdom four Chelsea fans who refused to allow a black man onto the Paris Metro have been banned by a London court from attending football matches for between three and five years.
Richard Barklie, a former police officer in Northern Ireland who now works as a human rights activist, was banned from attending football matches in Britain and abroad for five years.
William Simpson and Josh Parsons were also banned for five years, while Jordan Munday was banned for three years.
The ban on the English fans comes after the Russian Football Union rejected a claim by a midfielder playing for a Russian team that he was racially abused by Spartak Moscow supporters.
Football commentator Les Murray says there is only so much football's governing bodies can do to deal with the situation.
Listen: Les Murray speaks with Peggy Giakoumelos.
The incident occurred in February, when Souleymane Sylla was pushed off a train by supporters who were filmed in a video singing "we're racist, we're racist, and that's the way we like it."
It occurred before Chelsea played a Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.
