WHAT LEADERS SAY ON THE IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL:

US President Barack Obama:

"Our differences are real. The difficult history between the nations cannot be ignored. It is possible to change. This deal offers an opportunity to move in a new direction. We should seize it."

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani:

"If this deal is implemented correctly... we can gradually eliminate distrust.

"This is a mutual deal, a reciprocal deal."

French President Francois Hollande:

"It's a very important deal that was signed overnight, the world is making headway."

Russia's President Vladimir Putin:

"We are certain that today the world has breathed a huge sigh of relief."

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon:

"I hope - and indeed believe - that this agreement will lead to greater mutual understanding and cooperation on the many serious security challenges in the Middle East.

"As such, it could serve as a vital contribution to peace and stability both in the region and beyond."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

"In every area where it was supposed to prevent Iran attaining nuclear arms capability, there were huge compromises....

"You can't prevent an agreement when those negotiating it are prepared to make more and more concessions to those shouting 'Death to the United States' even as the talks are in progress.

"Iran will get hundreds of billions of dollars with which it will be able to fuel its terror machine." (He was referring to the expected lifting of crippling Western sanctions on Iran's oil and banking sectors)

Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's foreign minister:

"I believe this is a historic moment. We are reaching an agreement that is not perfect for anybody but it is what we could accomplish and it is an important achievement for all of us."

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini:

"It is a decision that can open the way to a new chapter in international relations and show that diplomacy, co-ordination, co-operation can overcome decades of tensions and confrontation."

France's Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius:

"This is an historic deal in its aim and because it can help facilitate a normalisation of Iran's international relations."

Britain's Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond:

"We hope, and expect, that this agreement will herald a step-change in Iran's relations with its neighbours and with the international community."
