What now for Edward Snowden?

An international human rights monitor has called for US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden to receive fair treatment, as he seeks asylum.

Human Rights Watch says Mr Snowden's situation, and the alleged large-scale violations of the right to privacy by surveillance programs, raise a number of important international human rights issues which need to be addressed.

The group says there have been major technological advancements in surveillance that the legislative system has to keep pace with to protect people's privacy.

Liz Throssell, from Human Rights Watch has told Zara Zaher that respect of the right to privacy and protection of individuals revealing human rights violations is crucial.
