An IAEA conference is discussing the problem of long-term disposal of radioactive waste, mostly from nuclear power stations.

What to do with the world's nuclear waste?

The disposal of radioactive waste, mostly from nuclear power stations, is a big item on the agenda of a conference underway in Austria of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Radioactive spent nuclear fuel requires safe storage for at least tens-of-thousands of years and so far no country has come up with a permanent storage solution.

Central Europe correspondent Kerry Skyring has told Brianna Roberts the conference will also look at whose responsibilty it is to dispose of the highly dangerous material.
