As Australia prepares to withdraw the majority of its troops from Afghanistan by the end of next year, details are starting to emerge of what the ongoing military commitment there will involve.
The Defence Department is still saying up to 400 Australian military personnel will stay on in Afghanistan, throughout 2014.
The Department has just announced that up to 18 Australian Special Forces and other army personnel will be deployed in Kabul to assist Afghan forces responsible for defending the Afghan capital.
Neil James, from the Australia Defence Association, told Santilla Chingaipe that time will tell whether Australians could still be involved in combat in Afghanistan next year.
