Where does Lyon sit alongside greats?

Nathan Lyon is in career-best form and boasts a seriously impressive set of numbers.

HOW NATHAN LYON IS TRACKING ALONGSIDE THE GREATS

MOST TEST WICKETS (AUSTRALIAN) 708 - Shane Warne 563 - Glenn McGrath 355 - Dennis Lillee 334 - Nathan Lyon WHERE WAS WARNE AT, AT LYON's AGE (31)? *At the end of the 2000-01 summer (which he missed through injury), Warne had 366 scalps from 84 Tests. *It's unreasonable to expect Lyon to snag 32 wickets in the next four Tests but current form (16 scalps from two Tests against India) suggests he will significantly reduce the gap. *Warne proceeded to claim 342 more wickets from 61 Tests, retiring at age 37. *The legendary legspinner failed to play a single Test in 2003, a product of a shoulder injury and 12-month suspension for taking a banned substance.

WHAT ELSE? *Lyon has now dismissed India captain Virat Kohli, widely considered the best batsman in the world, seven times in Tests. No other bowler has achieved that feat.

*Lyon's match figures of 8-106 in the second Test against India included a five-wicket haul in the first innings. It was his seventh five-wicket haul against India in Tests. No other bowler, apart from Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan, has achieved that feat.

*Lyon has taken his batting and bowling to another level. He is the leading wicket-taker of the current series (16 scalps at 19.43) and has scored a handy 76 runs at 76 in the series.
