Jamie Whincup will be without the man who helped guide him to all five V8 Supercar titles this year as he chases a record sixth championship.

The Holden star's race engineer Mark Dutton was on Tuesday promoted to team manager at Red Bull Racing Australia, a position previously held by Adrian Burgess.

Burgess was sent on "gardening leave" by team owner Roland Dane late last season after announcing his defection to Walkinshaw Racing.

Dutton will be replaced by former Triple Eight data engineer David Cauchi.

Cauchi has been with the team since 2008 but spent a majority of 2013 as Dean Fiore's engineer at Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport.

There will be little change for Whincup's teammate Craig Lowndes, whose engineer Jeromy Moore will stay on to run the No.888 car for a seventh season despite being promoted to chief designer.

Lowndes narrowly missed out on claiming his fourth championship and first since 1999 following a dramatic final round in Sydney last month.

All teams will return to the track on February 15 for the official test day at Sydney Motorsport Park, two weeks ahead of the season-opening Clipsal 500.
