In the digital age, who owns your online data when you die?

When we die, our physical belongings such as homes, money and furniture are usually handed down to friends and family.

But what happens to our digital possessions, our so-called "digital estate"?

Many of us have photo albums on social media sites and inboxes full of emails, not to mention pages full of tweets.

The question of who owns this content is up for debate and new research shows there's an alarming lack of knowledge about exactly who these items belong to.
