Why girls need to 'get moving'

The government has invested in a major campaign aimed at increasing the physical activity levels of young women.

WHY GIRLS NEED TO "MAKE THEIR MOVE"

* Nine in 10 Australian young people don't move enough

* Young women exercise at a lower intensity than men

* Young women are more sedentary than men

* Research found young women fear being ridiculed or judged when physically active

* More than half of girls aged 15-17 report no or low exercise levels

* More than twice the number of males aged 15-17 have high levels of exercise compared to females

* The "Girls make your move" campaign wants sport and exercise to be a natural part of women's lives.
