Wigan coach Shaun Wane put a dampener on his team's victory celebrations after their 24-16 triumph over Huddersfield and called for a major improvement ahead of their clash with the Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Series.
Wane, whose side were held to a 22-22 draw in their opening Super League game at Widnes, was forced to re-shuffle his side just before kick-off when stand-off George Williams pulled an abductor muscle in the final seconds of the warm-up and he must have feared the worst when they trailed 16-10 at half-time.
Already without England scrum-half Matty Smith through suspension, Wane drafted in 20-year-old Ryan Hampshire for a rare start and the Warriors lacked cohesion for long periods.
However, they scored three unanswered tries in the second half, with 19-year-old prop Ryan Sutton clinching their first win of the season seven minutes from the end with his first try for the club.
"I've very mixed emotions," Wane said. "I've just killed the (victory) song in there.
"I'm happy with the two points but disappointed with the performance.
"We have certain standards so the disruption didn't concern me. I expect players to come in and do certain things but they didn't do them.
"We still expected a better performance than what we got and we're going to have improve a lot next week.
"We played well in patches but we've just not found that consistency yet. We created some chances but we need to be better. I'm sick of saying that."
Hooker Michael McIlorum and second rower John Bateman scored tries for Wigan and Joel Tomkins demonstrated his class as a makeshift centre by taking his tally of tries to three in the first two games.
"He's a hard man to handle, he's an athlete," Wane said.
Wane says he expects to discover the extent of Williams injury over the weekend and will also anxiously await the outcome of scans on the knee injury sustained by skipper Sean O'Loughlin as he eyes the clash with the Broncos on Saturday week.
