Wigan have suffered an injury blow ahead of Saturday's World Club Challenge with NRL premiers the Sydney Roosters, with utility Sam Powell ruled out with an ankle injury.
Powell, who can play at halfback or hooker, suffered the injury during training and will not feature in the showpiece game between the NRL and Super League champions, to be held at Allianz Stadium.
"An initial diagnosis has ruled him out of the game with Sydney Roosters whilst the full extent of the injury will be investigated by Wigan's specialists on their return to the UK next week," the club said in a statement.
Powell had been considered a strong chance to force his way into Wigan's side after impressing last season.
"It is a big blow for Sam who has worked really hard in pre-season but with his character I'm sure he will bounce back stronger," head coach Shaun Wane said.
