WikiLeaks political party registered

The WikiLeaks political party has been officially registered with the Australian Electoral Commission.

The Australian Electoral Commission has given the go ahead for the WikiLeaks political party to field candidates at the upcoming federal election.

The party's registration means leader Julian Assange will run for a Victorian Senate seat, alongside party candidates in several other states.

Mr Assange is living at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, hoping to avoid extradition to Sweden to answer sex crimes allegations.

He was granted political asylum on the basis of claims that being sent to Sweden could seen him extradited to the United States to face prosecution over his organisation's release of confidential US documents.

National campaign manager for the WikiLeaks political party, Greg Barns, spoke to Kristina Kukolja about the party's campaign plans.
