The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning in northern NSW.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of nothern NSW, and renewed flood warnings for some rivers in northern NSW and Queensland.

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours," the BOM's warning says.

"Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Armidale, Orange, Tamworth, Moree and Dubbo."

In some areas, emergency crews have helped flood-affected people.

Rain in the next 12 hours will cause some rivers to rise, BOM has warned.
