Wildcat Casey Prather suffers injury scare

Perth Wildcats import Casey Prather is expected to be fit for Sunday's NBL clash with Illawarra despite injuring his left ankle at training on Friday.

Star import Casey Prather has become the latest Wildcats player to be struck down by the club's injury curse, but he remains on track to play in Sunday's NBL clash with the Illawarra Hawks at Perth Arena.

Prather crumpled to the floor clutching at his left ankle near the end of Friday's training session.

The 24-year-old could only mount a small limp as he made his way to the sidelines, and he sat despondently for the rest of the session with ice strapped around his ankle.

However, medical staff have since cleared Prather of serious damage and the Wildcats are confident he'll be fit to face the Hawks.

Forward/centre Angus Brandt was also a training casualty on Friday, with the big man rolling his ankle early in the session.

Brandt was also cleared of serious injury and is expected to face the Hawks.

Skipper Damian Martin remains sidelined with a serious knee injury.

Wildcats centre Matt Knight made it through the session unscathed in what comes as a timely relief to the club.

Knight sent a huge scare through the Wildcats' camp when he re-injured his troublesome left shoulder in last week's loss to the Kings in Sydney.

It was the same shoulder Knight had surgery on during the off-season.

Knight's shoulder has been sore since last week's collision, but coach Trevor Gleeson hopes the 31-year-old will be able to bust through the pain barrier to take on the Hawks.

"Structurally it's great," Gleeson said of Knight's shoulder.

"If he can play with pain, we want him to play. But it's going to be up to Matt's comfort zone.

"Matt's a pretty strong character out there. He's a warrior. He's played the last couple of years with injury.

"He knows what he can put his body through, and what he can't.

"He's mentally tougher than he was three years ago. So if there's one player who can get through it, it's Matty."

Reserve guard Corban Wroe is on track to return from concussion, while Jarrod Kenny is available to spend much more time on the court after making a successful return from a groin injury.

The fifth-placed Hawks bounced back to form last Sunday with a 109-78 thrashing of the NZ Breakers.

The Wildcats are in second spot on the ladder with a 6-4 record.
