Federal Independent MP Andrew Wilkie is being sued by Clubs NSW over his comments about former Labor minister Peter Garrett's dealing with the poker machine industry.

In a case listed for hearing in Sydney's Supreme Court on Friday, Mr Wilkie is the second defendant, and the ABC, which broadcast the comments in October, the first defendant.

In a statement issued on Wednesday the Hobart-based MP says he will vigorously defend the allegation, which focused on an interview during which he called for a police investigation of Mr Garrett's dealings.
