Willett takes trap gold, breaks record

Australia's James Willett has got his shooting year off to a perfect start with a big win in New Delhi.

Australia's James Willett has bagged gold in the double trap at the men's World Cup shooting event in India with a world record score.

Willett defeated local hope Ankur Mittal by shooting a world record score of 75.

Willett, who represented Australia in the event at the Rio Olympics, was ecstatic to start 2017 on a high as he targets further success in the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

"It was really good to come out and win the first World Cup of the year. Great to start 2017 on a high," Willett said.

"I'm looking forward to the next events and the 2018 Commonwealth Games."
