Wind tears flag over parliament

Concerns have been raised over the ripped Australian flag flying over Parliament House.

Heavy winds over the weekend have torn the Australian flag flying over Parliament House in Canberra.

Asked by Labor senator Jacinta Collins when it would be replaced, Department of Parliamentary Services secretary Robert Stefanic told a Senate committee he became aware of the tear on Monday and he had asked for advice from the building services branch.

"There were significant winds over the weekend which probably would have impacted heavily on that flag," he said, adding it was flying at half mast in honour of the late king of Thailand.
