Winds of change in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi monarchy has been working hard to keep the Arab Spring from spilling into the kingdom, but that, in itself, is bringing change.

The Arab Spring has broken out all around Saudi Arabia over the past couple of years -- all around its borders, not within the country.

 

Indeed, the monarchy is working hard to keep the Arab Spring from spilling into the kingdom, fearing what that might bring.

 

But that, in itself, is bringing change to Saudi Arabia.

 

Saudi radio journalist Samar Fatany has been in Australia as part of an Australian Arab Women's Dialogue.

 

Ron Sutton asked her about the recent addition of 30 women, for the first time, to the country's Shura Council, the formal advisory body to the king.
