The maker of McGuigan Wines has secured a distribution deal with a major Chinese food company.

Australian Vintage said the long-term agreement with COFCO's wine and spirits business will allow the full range of McGuigan's wines to reach the growing Chinese wine market.

The general manager of COFCO Wine and Spirits Li Shiyi said Australian wine will play a critical role in the future of China's wine market.

Australian Vintage shares were up one cent at 40 cents at 1430 AEST.
