Manly have received a boost ahead of the NRL season, with scans confirming David Williams' knee injury isn't as bad as first feared.
"The Wolfman" hasn't given up hope of taking the field for the Sea Eagles' round one clash against Melbourne, and has expressed his relief at learning there's no structural damage in his right knee.
There were serious concerns Williams' season was over before it even began after he broke down in Manly's opening match of the Auckland Nines against North Queensland.
It was the same match that ended the year of Cowboys' new fullback Lachlan Coote, who ruptured his ACL.
Williams has severe bruising and will undergo rigorous physiotherapy over the coming weeks.
"Its disappointing but it could have been a lot worse. I'm just glad it wasn't anything too serious and hopefully it will recover in time for round one," Williams said.
In contrast to the good news received by Williams, Newcastle playmaker Jarrod Mullen could reportedly miss up to four months with a serious hamstring injury, also suffered at the Nines.
