Woman charged for sick child's ring theft

A 25-year-old Sydney woman has been charged after the fraudulent purchase of a ring being sold to help pay for a sick boy's medical treatment.

A Sydney woman has been charged for fraudulently buying a ring from a mother who needed the money for her sick toddler's medical treatment.

The 25-year-old allegedly visited a home in Newport on Australia Day to buy the ring from the northern beaches mother.

The mother had listed the ring for sale on a website to help pay for her 19-month-old son's urgent treatment.

The woman was arrested in Liverpool on Thursday and charged with three counts of obtaining benefit by deception.

She was granted bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on March 4.

However, shortly after being released, she was allegedly recognised by a man visiting Liverpool police station to report a fraud.

Police re-arrested the woman to speak to her about the new allegations, before she was released pending further investigations.
