Woman dead, another critical in Vic crash

A female driver is dead and her female passenger has life-threatening injuries after their car and a four-wheel drive collided in Melbourne.

One woman is dead and another is critically injured after a crash in Melbourne's east.

It's believed the women's car was turning right when it was hit by a four-wheel drive at Forest Hill about 11.30am (AEDT).

The female driver died at the scene while her female passenger was taken to The Alfred hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Next of kin are yet to be notified, police said.

The other driver, a man, 32, received minor injuries.

Victoria's road toll now stands at 244, up from 239 this time last year.
