A woman has been killed and a man injured after they were involved in a car crash following a funeral service at a cemetery in Sydney's north.

A woman has been killed and a man injured in tragic circumstances after their car crashed at a Sydney cemetery.

The man and woman, both in their 80s, had just attended a funeral service at the Field of Mars cemetery at Ryde in Sydney's north on Friday afternoon.

After leaving the funeral, their car veered off Quarry Road and crashed into a crypt at the cemetery.

The woman died at the scene and the man was taken to Westmead Hospital.

The ABC reported the accelerator of the car became stuck and prompted the car to crash.

Field of Mars cemetery chief executive Pauline Tritton said it was not known if the accelerator was stuck or the driver had a foot on the accelerator.

The extent of the man's injuries is not known.
